Northern Soul heads south
Backyard Cinema have teamed up with Camden Market to bring you their very own outdoor summer film festival set across two screens. Sink into giant beanbags and lounge on deckchairs as you enjoy a selection of films, all served with fresh burgers, craft beer, cocktails and a decent helping of live DJs. Adventure through the alleys of Camden Market to find the intimate courtyard hosting the Cuban Screen stage. Here, you will find a more unusual range of indie flicks, moving documentaries and foreign language films. Tonight’s offering is Elaine Constantine's 2014 drama, Northern Soul. Situated in 1979 Lancashire, the film tells the tale of two Northern boys whose worlds are changed forever when they discover black American soul music. Northern Soul was phenomenally popular with British youths in the '70s, taking the North of the country by storm. If you were there, you'll know. If you weren't there, you'll wish you had been. "This feisty, frequently amusing chronicle of one young man's journey through the dancehalls of Lancashire nails its time and place." – Time Out "Every other scene showcases a northern treasure (Coogan, Thomson, Tomlinson, Stansfield) and looks, feels and - crucially - sounds true to its sweaty-hazy, slightly cramped corner of history." – The Guardian Certificate: 15. Valid ID required. Runtime: 1 hour 41 minutes. Please note that your email address will be passed to the event organiser as these details act as proof of purchase and are required to gain entry.
"A buzzing love letter to the enduring, exclusive underground movement."
