Backyard Cinema Cuban Screen Outdoor Screening: Submarine
Catch IT Crowd funny-man Richard Ayoade's directorial debut
Backyard Cinema have teamed up with Camden Market to bring you their very own outdoor summer film festival set across two screens. Sink into giant beanbags and lounge on deckchairs as you enjoy a selection of films, all served with fresh burgers, craft beer, cocktails and a decent helping of live DJs. Adventure through the alleys of Camden Market to find the intimate courtyard hosting the Cuban Screen stage. Here, you will find a more unusual range of indie flicks, moving documentaries and foreign language films. Tonight’s offering is Submarine, the directorial debut from IT funny-man, Richard Ayoade. Situated in ‘80s Swansea, the film follows Oliver Tate, a 15-year-old besotted with Jordana, a feisty girl in his class. Yet, as he embarks on his first relationship, he also frets over that of his parents, a situation exacerbated by one of his mum's exes moving in down the road. This coming-of-age-drama is crafted with such poise that it has seen the transcendence of Ayoade from TV nerd-comic to true big-screen talent. This is a definite must-see. "Richard Ayoade's directorial debut isn't just a charming coming-of-age tale – it's a film buff's delight" – The Independent "A perfect blend of cool, quirky comedy and warm-hearted drama." – Empire Certificate: 15.
