A tuneful comedy-drama to get you tapping your feet
Backyard Cinema have teamed up with Camden Market to bring you their very own outdoor summer film festival set across two screens. Sink into giant beanbags and lounge on deckchairs as you enjoy a selection of new releases, cult favourites and all-time classics. Based in Camden Lock Place, the main stage is the hub of entertainment before the screening serving fresh burgers, craft beer, cocktails and a decent helping of live DJs. Tonight’s offering on the huge screen is the cult comedy-drama from 1991, The Commitments. Based on author Roddy Doyle's trilogy of Barrytown tales, the film follows a working-class group of mates from Dublin's North Side in their search for fame and fortune as soul singers. It takes many hours of practice, but eventually "The Commitments" become popular on the club circuit. Unfortunately with success comes a new set of problems as youthful egos swell. "The film offers no message, no solutions, only a great time at the movies." – Time Magazine "Sharply written and executed with real verve, this is an enduring and enjoyable comedy-drama that showcases some great performances both on and off-stage." – Film4 Certificate: 15. Valid ID required. Runtime: 1 hour 53 minutes.
"Foul-mouthed, fast-talking and very funny."
