Backyard Cinema Main Stage Outdoor Screening: Whiplash
This film will spit you out elated, exhausted and cheering for an encore
Backyard Cinema have teamed up with Camden Market to bring you their very own outdoor summer film festival set across two screens. Sink into giant beanbags and lounge on deckchairs as you enjoy a selection of new releases, cult favourites and all-time classics. Based in Camden Lock Place, the main stage hosts Damien Chazelle's jazz-soaked drama, Whiplash. In 2014, Whiplash was the talk of the town – and rightly so. Depicting the hardships of drummer, Andrew (Miles Teller) and his highly dysfunctional relationship with a tyrannical professor, Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons). J.K. Simmons deservedly won both a BAFTA and an Oscar for his performance as Fletcher, a man full of ferocity and virtuosity who is willing to push his students to any lengths to achieve his vision, no matter the cost. Be careful: this film grabs you by the scruff of your collar and refuses to let go. "It will spit you out elated, exhausted and cheering for an encore." – Empire "Simmons gives an indelible, Oscar-worthy performance here, yet he’s matched in every step by Teller, who shows us an intense young man who finds in music an order and sense that the world around him lacks." – The Guardian Certificate: 15. Valid ID required. Runtime: 1 hour 44 minutes.
"Dynamic, provocative and moving."
