Small town America gets a blackly comic makeover
Alexander Payne plays with the road movie genre, concentrating on the details of small Midwestern towns. There is a harmony in the fragility of the black and white footage, mixed with darkly comic moments. We follow David and his father Woody, a grumpy boozer who gets it into his head that he’s won a million dollars. On the inevitable trip to collect the winnings, they travel from Montana to Nebraska, learning a lot about one another on the way. Seating allocated on arrival.
