BFI London Film Festival: When Animals Dream

Growing pains in Denmark

Adolescence, with all the confusion and changes that come bundled with it, is deftly explored in Jonas Alexander Arnby’s debut. This striking slice of Nordic noir is set in a small Danish fishing village where Marie takes a job in a factory. There she learns just how wary the locals are of her reclusive family. As her body reacts to the changes brought on by adolescence, Marie must also face up to the dark secret her parents have been keeping under wraps. Debutante Sonia Suhl is captivating as Marie, the girl with the weight of the world upon her shoulders.
