BFI London Film Festival: Youth
This thriller delves into the dark depths of the morally dubious
When Yaki enlists in the army, he gets a rifle. Seemingly this could be the end of the financial trouble that plagues his family. He and his brother come up with a dangerous plan to kidnap a young girl and hold her to ransom. The plot shifts, keeping the audience second-guessing which direction it will take and the motives of the two teenage boys. Both a coming of age story and an intense thriller, director and screenwriter Tom Shoval keeps his cards close to his chest with dramatic effect. Seating allocated on arrival."Tom Shoval's debut...is a difficult film to shake..."
