It's a birthday that demands a big party – classical styleJoin Classic FM in one of the world's greatest concert halls, the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, as they celebrate the 90th birthday of our reigning monarch, good old Queen Elizabeth II. How will they do it? The only way Classic FM now how – with the greatest British classical music known to man.
The concert will showcase some of this country's best classical compositions with music by Elgar, Walton, Delius, Holst, Handel and Vaughan Williams, alongside contemporary composers including Nigel Hess (of Ladies In Lavender fame) and the legendary John Barry.
The night will also feature a very special appearance and performance by one of our greatest living British composers, Sir Karl Jenkins, conducting his own Allegretto from Palladio.
Other special guest artists will include virtuoso violinist Jennifer Pike performing pieces including Ralph Vaughan Williams’ stunning The Lark Ascending, plus soprano Laura Wright, performing a number of classic British songs including I Vow To Thee My Country.
Another Crown Imperial highlight will be the concert premier of a new composition by Debbie Wiseman, MBE, one of Britain's most celebrated composers, who has been commissioned by the Royal Household to compose music to commemorate The Queen’s 90th.
Alongside all these spectacular performances, Classic FM will reflect on the Queen’s life through the prism of the monumental moments in British history that have shaped her life and her reign over, arguably, the most eventful century in human history.
Join them for a night of spectacular music and be part of this once-in-a-lifetime royal tribute.
