Gershwin's Rhapsody In Blue By Candlelight

Jazz concerto captures New York's heartbeat

Describing St Martin-in-the-Fields as atmospheric is something of an understatement. Tonight, award-winning pianist Warren Mailley-Smith performs a programme that includes Beethoven, Schubert, and Liszt, and ends with Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. This composition came to Gershwin as he sat on the train to Boston, and the whirling of what he described as "metropolitan madness" can be heard in the piece. Immortalised in the opening credits of Woody Allen's Manhattan, this music is brought to life tonight by Mailley-Smith, under the twinkle of candlelight. Your tickets are for unreserved side aisle seating.
