The London premiere of an all-new orchestral soundscape
John Luther Adams – winner of a Pulitzer Prize for Music and, according to the New Yorker, "one of the most original musical thinkers of the new century" – presents the London premiere of his new orchestral soundscape. Led by eight London Sinfonietta horn players, Across The Distance is the latest in a continuing series of works intended for performance outdoors. The horn players begin in a central location and, over the course of the piece, they begin move farther and farther out into the surrounding cityscape. Listeners may choose to follow the musicians or to sit in one place and listen as the music recedes into the distance. Simply magical. This event is free and entry is on a first come first served basis, so it can't be guaranteed. "I think it's incredible. It turned my head around about what music and performance of music could be."
