Terry Johnson’s play about the cult figure Ken Campbell – exclusively discounted for Time Out.
London, 1978. A young playwright is sat in his shabby flat, struggling with a script he’s putting together Royal Court. When the phone rings, he answers – only to find the person on the other end of the line is looking for the flat’s previous occupant. All the same, the pair strike up a conversation… and so the younger man unexpectedly gets to know anarchic theatre maverick Ken Campbell.
Transferring from Hampstead Theatre's studio following a sell-out 2016 run, Terry Johnson’s ‘Ken’ reflects on his personal experiences of meeting the legendary Campbell, who remains one of the true oddballs on British culture: an avant-gardist, a comic and a practical joker. Johnson himself will deliver endless, wickedly funny anecdotes about a man with a boundless energy that infected and inspired all who met him.
