Time Out says
There’s nothing quite like experiencing a destination like a local, from the culture to the food, and that’s exactly what Intrepid Travel specialises in with shared adventures amongst like-minded people.
Inspired by traditional cuisine, this culinary masterclass spotlights an endangered dish from Hong Kong, traditional Kwun Tong gao soup dumplings, and teaches you how to cook them like a local. Reflecting the loss of traditional, labour-intensive dishes in Hong Kong, Kwun Tong gao has sadly disappeared from menus in recent years due to a decline in local expertise. Soup dumplings are notoriously complex to craft, involving the filling of a prawn, pork or vegetable filling, before getting delicately sealed and steamed.
Despite soup dumplings gaining significant popularity in the West over recent years, the method is a far more industrialised version and lacks the authentic hand-crafted process that makes kwun tong gao so special. So, why not honour this near-lost craft by learning the recipe and sharing it with your loved ones?
Taking place at Food at 52 Cookery School, which has a homespun feel in keeping with Intrepid’s focus on authentic experiences, you’ll be guided by one of the kitchen’s professional chefs every step of the way. Afterwards, you’ll get to enjoy the dish and share your experience around the table with others, revelling in your worldly cuisine creation together.
There are multiple sessions, so pick a date that suits, while there are other endangered dishes in the series, so pick and mix, or do them all!
