The Manchester collective come to Shapes to show Londoners how they go in
Levelz have been steadily building momentum over the past few years in Manchester’s hip-hop scene by presenting their own events, but this genre-spanning music collective haven’t stopped there as they are now gearing up to makes waves in East London’s premier warehouse venue Shapes. At their core of the 14-man crew sit DJs Rich Reason and Johnny Dub, who've helped to establish the platform for producers, lyrical wordsmiths and musicians to collective develop. Comprising of Black Josh, Bricks, Chimpo, Chunky, Fox, Metrodome, Skittles, T-Man, Sparkz and Truthos Mufasa, these guys are a force to be reckoned with. With a group of this size it’s only natural that they would piece together a diverse musical soundscape stretching from hip-hop, jazz, grime, dubstep and drum 'n' bass. They are sonic reflection of the diversity of themselves as individuals but also of Manchester itself. Recently the boys have been busy with members Dub Phizix & Strategy hosting a BBC Radio 1 Residency, Chunky doing a takeover on NTS Radio, a Beats 1 radio session and their January mixtape release LVL 11 being given F.U.N.K blog Recording of the month recognition, and they’re also returning for Outlook Festival in Croatia this summer. The energy of the band is magnetic and raw so the warehouse setting of Shapes in Hackney Wick will complement the presence and show Londoners just how talented this outfit are. Over 18s only. Valid ID required. Event opens: 9pm. Event closes: 2am.
"A loose-knit group of MCs, DJs and producers with the potential to evolve into one of the most exciting creative forces to emerge from Manchester in recent years."
