London Philharmonic Orchestra: El Niño, A Nativity Oratorio

Part of the Rest Is Noise festival, celebrating music from the 20th century

"John Adams...may be the most vital and eloquent composer in American."

- New York Times
Tonight, the London Philharmonic Orchestra performs El Niño, a reimagined version of the Nativity story, set in Hispanic America. With a sprinkling of magical realism, this is a musical feast full of theatrical and visual allusions. Inspired by the rousingly beautiful Handel’s Messiah, this is an intense and moving piece composed by John Adams in the late '90s. Seating allocated on arrival. Free pre-concert event at 5pm: the LPO's creative ensemble for 15-19 year-olds, The Band, performs new music inspired by John Adams’s El Niño and its source texts. Seating allocated on arrival.
