Górecki's sublime melodies inspired by grief, sorrow + folkThe Southbank Centre’s The Rest Is Noise series looks at the great and good of contemporary composition in the 20th century. Tonight’s focus is on Henryk Górecki. In the mid-1970s, he put together a pretty harrowing piece, bringing together traditional Polish folk music with a more classical edge. Understandingly the subtitle of his Symphony Number 3 is Symphony of Sorrowful Songs. If you get down early, there’s a free pre-concert talk discussing this evening’s programme which will help put the music into context.
Seating allocated on arrival. Latecomers may not be admitted. Free pre-concert event, 6:15pm-6:45pm in the Royal Festival Hall.
