Three orchestras over one stage...it's going to be big
Combining the power of three orchestras means that more than 100 musicians will fill the stage at the Royal Festival Hall. A daunting thought. Then add to this the fact that they'll be performing Luigi Nono’s post-war meditations on the qualities of silence, and Stockhausen’s serial composition Gruppen, and it gets even more epic. Nono and Stockhausen became leaders of the avant-garde new music movement in the 1950s. Gruppen is a shifting score full of colour and texture, ebbing and flowing between instruments. This is a rare opportunity to see this dramatic soundscape performed.
