Classic, majestic opera with a dazzling score
You've never seen the London Coliseum like this before. East meets West in Puccini's classic tale of doomed love, as an American naval lieutenant, Pinkerton, is swept off his feet in the Land Of The Rising Sun. It tragically tells of Butterfly, the young Japanese girl who falls in love with him. Shortly after their wedding, Pinkerton returns to America; Butterfly gives birth to a son and patiently awaits her husband's return, never giving up hope. All the sorrow. All the beautiful music. Anthony Minghella's award-winning returns returns with its breathtaking mix of cinematic images and traditional Japanese theatre – a riot of colourful costumes, stunning sets and unforgettable use of puppetry. Minghella's sole opera production has developed into one of the most iconic stagings of the 21st century. It sees internationally renowned sopranos Dina Kuznetsova and Mary Plazas (Minghella's original Butterfly) sharing the title role, alongside Welsh tenors Timothy Richards and Gwyn Hughes Jones as Pinkerton, Pamela Helen Stephen as Suzuki, and ENO Harewood Artist George Von Bergen as Sharpless. Sung and surtitled in English. Running time: 3 hours. All ticket prices for Madam Butterfly are inclusive of any booking fees: YPlan will not charge you any additional amounts for your tickets.
