A national treasureJavad Mirjavadov is one of Azerbaijan’s greatest 20th century painters but fame and recognition only came after his death in 1992. Mirjavadov's progressive style consisted of bright, striking colours and sharp antithesis that were outside the accepted artistic rules of his time. After having to battle against the obscurity forced upon him by the Soviet cultural system, his paintings are now considered rare treasures of unparalleled value. The exhibition also features some of Azerbaijan’s finest carpets.
