An array of work from contemporary Russian artistsRussian contemporary art still feels remote. It is rarely seen at galleries & therefore Saatchi gets all the credit for bringing this work before the British public. You just have to see this exhibition, entitled 'Gaiety Is The Most Outstanding Feature Of The Soviet Union.'
Life-size photographs of Russian criminals baring their illegally tattooed bodies, paintings of protesters & mocking use of Cyrillic lettering, gigantic panoramas of Moscow, citizens photographed sitting on the windowsills looking like they're just about to fall. This art is brand new - some of it made in the last 6 months & all of it at least a decade after the end of communism.
'[this exhibition is] like the country itself, vast, conflicted, and impossible to summarise.' - Port Magazine.
Last entry is at 5.30pm.
