A special screening of a life changing filmThis intense and authored documentary follows the attempts by two rival gangs in inner city Birmingham to bring peace to their feuding neighbourhoods. Award-winning filmmaker Penny Woolcock chronicles the lives of the Burger Bar Boys (B21) and the Johnson Crew (B6) after their response to her hip hop project, Day 1. The documentary began when Shabba, a young crew member of the Johnson Crew who met Penny during her research, felt that she had earned the trust of the young gangs and asked her to set up a meeting with Dylan Duffus, an affiliate of the Burger Bar Boys. The film follows their painstaking journey through life as part of an inner city gang and ends in some surprising consequences. A special Q&A with the director will take place after the film.
'A riveting portrait of the complex, contentious reality of the streets, and the courage it takes to make a difference, it could well be this year’s most important British film.' - Time Out.
