Even Aeschylus would be proud of this one
Orestes' parents are at war. A family drama spanning several decades – a huge, moving, bloody saga – Aeschylus' greatest and final play asks whether justice can ever be done, and continues to resonate more than two millennia after it was written. After a sensational run at the Almeida Theatre in Islington, Oresteia gets the nod for a West End residency at the Trafalgar Studios. Robert Icke's production is a gripping never-to-be-forgotten theatrical experience. Starring Lia Williams (Old Times, Earthquakes in London) as Klytemnestra, Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) as Electra and Angus Wright (The Iron Lady) as Agamemnon, this star-studded cast has been the talk of the town. Part Godfather, part Breaking Bad, this new reimagined version of the epic Greek saga is simply unmissable. Trafalgar Studios is London's most exciting new venue, and prides itself as a starting place for new productions to find their home. The theatre was Grade II listed in 1996, noting "The auditorium has a decorative cohesion and prettiness rare in theatres of its day, and has the best surviving original fabric of this type of theatre". ★★★★★ – Time Out ★★★★★ – The Observer ★★★★ – Evening Standard ★★★★ – The Times ★★★★ – The Independent ★★★★ – What'sOnStage ★★★★ – Londonist Recommended for ages 5 and up.
