David Afkham conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra through this fascinating programme. In the case of Berg's and Lindberg's pieces, they share the use of a chorale melody employed by Bach – the first three notes of which act as a musical motto for The Great Symphony itself. Violin virtuoso Carolin Widmann will be joining the orchestra tonight.
The programme:
- Magnus Lindberg: Chorale
- Alban Berg: Violin Concerto
- Franz Schubert: The Great Symphony
