Pillow Cinema: Whiplash
The Cosiest "Night In" Night Out
The Pillow Cinema have made it their mission to turn your movie nights into unforgettable experiences. After a glorious summer of screening s they now take their magic to the beautiful Sutton House, a stunning Tudor home run by The National Trust in the heart of Hackney. Filled with oak-panelled rooms and charming original features, it’s the perfect setting for cosying up with a movie and a loved one this winter. For this one get ready for Damien Chazelle's jazz-soaked drama, Whiplash. Depicting the hardships of drummer, Andrew (Miles Teller) and his highly dysfunctional relationship with a tyrannical professor, Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons) this film was the talk of the town in 2014 – and rightly so. Simmons deservedly won both a BAFTA and an Oscar for his performance as Fletcher, a man full of ferocity and virtuosity who is willing to push his students to any lengths to achieve his vision, no matter the cost. But be careful: this film grabs you by the scruff of your collar and refuses to let go. You have been warned. "It will spit you out elated, exhausted and cheering for an encore." – Empire "Simmons gives an indelible, Oscar-worthy performance here, yet he’s matched in every step by Teller, who shows us an intense young man who finds in music an order and sense that the world around him lacks." – The Guardian Certificate: 15. Valid ID required. Runtime: 1 hour 44 minutes. Doors to Sutton House open half an hour before the event. The film will start at the advertised time, and no trailers will be shown in advance. The fatboy bean bags are huge, and seat one person spaciously or two people snuggled up. If lounging's not really your thing, you can also grab a more traditional seat. Either way, there'll be blankets and cushions available for all.
"Dynamic, provocative and moving."
