Pop Ritzy Cinema: Vertigo
Pop Ritzy Cinema presents Hitchcock's classic
Pop Ritzy shows a mixture of specially curated favourites, classics and crowd-pleasers. On Sunday 17 April "Vertigo" will be screened. Recently voted the greatest film of all time by Sight And Sound, Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece is a typically idiosyncratic take on film noir – it takes place almost entirely in bright, Technicolor daylight. The film skilfully manipulates us into seeing the world through the eyes of reliable ex-cop Scottie (Stewart) as he pursues the apparently possessed Madeleine (Novak), then steadily unravels everything we thought we knew. Part thriller, part ghost story, part Freudian nightmare – Vertigo is a multi-layered portrait of obsession and a haunting visual treat. Certificate: PG. Runtime: 2 hours 9 minutes.
"The best movie of all time."
