A kooky collaboration for two wonderful films
Take a step into British cinematic history at the Regent Street Cinema. It was the first place in the country to ever show moving pictures, kickstarting British cinema with a screening of Cinematographe in 1986. Now, you can catch a special double bill screening of Noah Baumbach's off-kilter comedies.
Noah Baumbach and Greta Gerwig’s impressive creative partnership is on full display in this double bill. Frances Ha is an affectionate character study of a would-be dancer, Frances (Gerwig) based in New York. Frances throws herself headlong into her dreams, even as their possible reality dwindles. A modern comic fable. Then, new film Mistress America follows Tracy, a lonely college freshman in New York, having neither the exciting university experience nor the glamorous metropolitan lifestyle she envisaged. But when she is taken in by her soon-to-be stepsister Brooke (Gerwig) – a resident of Time Square and an adventurous gal about town she is rescued from her disappointment and seduced by Brooke’s alluring mad schemes.
