Regent Street Cinema Presents: La Piscine

Jacques Deray’s 1969 French Art-house masterpiece

"A tour de force of sexual longing and controlled suspense."

- The Guardian
Regent Street Cinema is Britain's oldest picturehouse. On 21 February 1896, it became the birthplace of cinema in the UK, when the Lumière brothers used their Cinematographé machine to show the earliest of moving images to a paying audience. Having reopened in May 2015, the staff have been dedicated to engaging with the cinema's groundbreaking legacy, showcasing everything from classic films, internationally acclaimed work and even the odd blockbuster. La Piscine is set in a magnificent villa near a sun-drenched St. Tropez, where Jean-Paul (Alain Delon) and Marianne (Romy Schneider) are spending a happy, lazy summer holiday. Their only concern is to gratify their mutual passion – until the day when Marianne invites her former lover and his beautiful teenage daughter to spend a few days with them. From the first moment, a certain uneasiness and tension begin to develop between the four, which soon escalates in a dangerous love-game. "A sexy but slow-moving slice of Sixties style that merits more attention than its been given…" – FIlm4 Certificate: 12A. Runtime: 2 hours 3 minutes. Please arrive on time as latecomers may not be admitted.
