Rooftop Film Club: Hairspray
Singing, dancing and a whole lotta fun
Picture this: you are watching a great film. You have some great food and your favourite drink, be that a pint or a cocktail. You are on a rooftop. There are panoramic views of the city and the sun is setting. Everything is good; life is great. Sound like a dream? Well, thanks to Stratford's Roof East, it ain't no more. For this one, get ready for the 2007 adaptation of the Tony award-winning Broadway production Hairspray, starring John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer and Christopher Walken. Pleasantly plump teenager Tracy Turnblad teaches 1962 Baltimore a thing or two about integration after landing a spot on a local TV dance show. Expect contagious pop songs, splendid dancing and a feel good vibe which will last all week. "It's hard to resist the film's exuberance." – Rolling Stone "If any movie musical could threaten the standing of retro favourite Grease, it's this one." – Radio Times Over 18s only. Runtime: 1 hour 53 minutes. Doors are at 8pm, film starts at 9pm.
"Plenty of body and a lot of lift."
