A dryly funny version of a pivotal moment in Chilean history
When Chilean dictator General Pinochet allowed for a referendum on whether he should be allowed another eight years in office, the ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ campaigns clearly emerged. Instead of delving head first into a one-sided political expose, Pablo Lorrain’s chosen to dramatise the ‘No’ campaign led by a young ad exec. What emerges is the winner of Director’s Fortnight at Cannes 2012 and a dryly hysterical/satirical version of Chile’s crucial moment in history.
‘Pablo Larraín's film about Chilean democracy is simple and direct, heartfelt and involving.’ - The Guardian.
