A remarkable film, followed by a Q&A with a remarkable man
Shuffle Festival is an annual event which aims to build a more integrated community presence through art, comedy, music, food and film. Taking place in the The Horse Chestnut Glade, tonight’s film screening is of Danny Boyle's 2000 thriller, The Beach. The film will be followed by a question and answer with Danny Boyle himself. Based on Alex Garland's best-selling novel, a baby-faced Leonardo DiCaprio plays twenty-something Richard, a backpacker travels to Thailand to find himself. This sounds like a very familiar story, but this is not a tale about cocktails in buckets and full moon parties. After a strange map comes into his possession, in equally strange circumstances, he finds his way onto a beach paradise inhabited by a traveller commune who are totally loving life. Of course, this tropical bliss can't last, can it? "DiCaprio delivers strongly." – Rolling Stone "Entertaining, engrossing, and ripe for discussion." – Empire Certificate: 15. Valid ID required. Runtime: 1 hour 39 minutes.
