The Candlelight Club: Shine For Shelterbox

Embrace the jazz music, flapper fashions and illicit drinking of Prohibition

A clandestine 1920s speakeasy party in a secret London venue completely lit by candles, with live jazz bands, cabaret and retro DJs, The Candlelight Club is the place to be. The bar dispenses vintage cocktails and the kitchens offer a fine-dining set menu as well as bar snacks and sharing platters. Guests receive an email two days before, revealing the secret location. Your host for the evening will be that Lord Of Cabaret Misrule, Champagne Charlie, and there will be dancing to live jazz music from the Candid Jug Orange Band, pumping out the rolling rhythms of New Orleans, plus vintage vinylism from DJ Auntie Maureen. Let the music play and the bootleg liquor flow. But just because they’re organised criminals doesn’t mean they’re hard-hearted! This time, for one night only, Candlelight Club have joined the Shine For Shelterbox campaign, raising funds for the charity that sends life-saving relief packages to victims of natural disasters and political crises around the world – right now they are deployed in Haiti, in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew. The Shelterboxes are plastic crates containing essential items such as tents, tools, cooking implements and also solar-powered lighting. The Shine campaign is inspired by these lights, representing a glimmer of hope in the darkness, and it encourages groups of friends and family to come together to eat and drink by candlelight to raise money. Given that our events are always lit by candles anyway, how could the Candlelight Club not be involved? So £5 from each ticket sold will be donated directly to ShelterBox and we will also be serving a one-off Shine Martini cocktail on the night to raise further funds. Age 18s only. Valid ID required.
