Shakespeare's classic comedy is brought to life by Phyllida LloydIn 2012, Phyllida Lloyd’s all-female production of Julius Caesar was placed in a women’s prison and stunned audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, challenging the idea of ‘who owns Shakespeare?’. In 2014, Phyllida reunited with actor Harriet Walter for Henry IV, the second instalment in what was announced to be a trilogy of works. This autumn The Shakespeare Trilogy will conclude with The Tempest forming the third and final part, moving from The Donmar and being performed at the 420 seated, temporary theatre at King's Cross.
Shakespeare's classic comedy will be staged as an all female cast, with Harriet Walter to play Prospero. The Tempest is set on a remote island, where Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, plots to restore his daughter Miranda to her rightful place in the kingdom using illusion and skilful manipulation. He conjures up a storm, the eponymous tempest, to lure his usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of Naples to the island.
Walter will be joined for this enchanting reimagining by a number of the Henry IV and Julius Caesar cast members, including Jade Anouka, Shiloh Coke, Jackie Clune, Karen Dunbar, Clare Dunne, Zainab Hasan, Jennifer Joseph, Sophie Stanton, Sharon Rooney and Caroline Valdés.
Suitable for mature (age 16+) audiences only, due to strong language and mature themes. Runtime: TBA.
