Vault Festival 2016: Hysterical
Puppetry meets psychology in this new piece of writing
London's biggest arts festival is returning: make your way underground for six weeks of creativity, innovation and chaos at Vault Festival. With more than 100 different shows spread across eight incredible venues, you're not going to find anything else like it above or below ground any time soon. Grappling with the sanctity of sanity, this darkly comedic, absurdist and interactive play blends bold new writing with clowning, puppetry and mime. Drawing on the creative teams’ experiences, Hysterical examines how gender and modern day pressures take their toll on mental health and questions whether societal structures mean we’re destined to fail; urging us to ask "Is mental health a deeply political question?" Hysterical is a co-production between HOAX and Luminary, working in creative collaboration with psychology academics and clinicians at UCL. Show takes place in the Cage space. Running time is approximately 60 minutes. The venue entrance is in a graffiti tunnel under Waterloo and can be a bit tricky to find, so give yourself good time to get there.
"Sweetly inventive and brazenly original."
