Summer nights were made for rooftop cinema
Take moviegoing to a whole new level…high in the sky that is. The Tony Dapolito Recreation Center is opening its West Village rooftop for your viewing pleasures this summer. The downtown spot boasts enough room for large blankets and a picnic so reach new heights, bring the popcorn, and enjoy tonight's screening of the 1978 musical hit, Grease. Drag-race yourself into '50s high school gang culture (which was apparently full of cheery musical number) and join good-girl Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) and greaser Danny (John Travolta) in their whirlwind romance. This is the perfect opportunity to sing along to those timeless tunes. "What makes it work is its youthful vitality, tremendous energy and imagination." – Hollywood Reporter "Grease has got it, from the outstanding animated titles of John Wilson all the way through the rousing finale as John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John ride off into teenage happiness." – Variety Rating: PG. Runtime: 1 hour 46 minutes. This event is free and entry is on a first come first served basis, so it can't be guaranteed.
