A sublime set from the Kenyan-Scandinavian songstress
Big hair, an even bigger voice. That's the story of Nasimiyu Murumba, the stunning Brooklyn-based musician who's making waves with her tunes, ranging from ecstatic and danceable to plaintive and personal. A former nonprofit-worker and community organizer, Murumba's influences run the gamut (Etta James, Talking Heads, Fela Kuti, Dirty Projectors) and the same goes for her eclectic mixes. When Spin, Interview, and Vogue sung her praises, we knew they were on to something.
