FYI it’s pronounced Bal-more-ray
Founded by Rob Lowe and Michael Muller in 2006, Balmorhea took its name from a tiny West Texas town of 500 people. Much like its namesake, the band’s early work reflected motifs of the American Southwest: the folklore of area settlers, emotive observations of the mountainous setting, and intimate studies on solitude, nature, and night. We know what you’re thinking. Everything’s supposed to be bigger in Texas, right? Balmorhea’s rich and layered sound certainly is. This awe-inspiring performance by the sextet is kicked off by the mellow sounds of Brooklyn-based violinist and composer Christopher Rignor.
