The melancholic indie-rock goddess returns triumphant
20 some years since her debut, it’s no longer up for debate; no one can pull off brooding as fetchingly as Chan Marshall. The icon first cast us under her spell during the golden age of the alt-indie scene (mid-'90s) by churning out soothing, dreamy harmonies and singing covers that launched her into rarefied Nina Simone territory. Feeding off the momentum of her latest and cheeriest LP yet, Sun, the songstress has kept her mystique. Multi-instrumentalist Nico Turner will round out the bill. General admission. Over 18s only.
"If there really is such a thing as a true 'indie-rock' rock star, then Chan Marshall—the mercurial singer-songwriter known as Cat Power—is it."
