Tense film set on the Gaza Strip
One of the standouts from this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Degrade is an emotive glimpse into the lives of women living on the Gaza Strip. On a baking summer's day, a group of women are trapped inside a hair salon as a vicious gang fight wages outside. Thrown together by sudden violence, the frightened women, including a pill-popping libertine and a religious fanatic, argue their way through the lockdown. Shot concurrently with the 2014 conflict, Degrade is intense and yet surprisingly humorous.
