Molissa Fenley & Co. present a rigorous program by choreography’s crème de la crème
With over 70 works in her repertoire, choreographer extraordinaire Molissa Fenley cuts a fine figure. The former Guggenheim fellow is back with two seminal pieces, Energizer, a quartet with music by Mark Freedman, and The Floor Dances, a solo performed by the lithe 50-something herself. She’ll also unveil Found Object, a new ensemble work with music by Erin Gee and sculpture by Richard Long. Her collaboration with visual artists makes for a dynamic program, but the real pull? The arresting physicality of her pieces. Spellbinding, to put it mildly. Best available seating allocated by the venue on arrival. Please arrive on time.
"Devotion. Austerity. Intent. During an evening with Molissa Fenley’s coiled, concentrated dancing, certain words plant themselves in your brain. There is a stillness about her work and a heft that demand a particular type of attention."
