The classic fairy tale is reimagined with a dark, romantic spin
If Tim Burton did ballet, it would probably look a whole lot like Matthew Bourne’s take on Sleeping Beauty – gothic, opulent, and eye-popping. The British choreographer first made a name for himself with his 1995 reworking of Swan Lake and now the master raconteur and his company, New Adventures, are tackling the tale of the barefoot dormant beauty, Aurora. Though Tchaikovsky’s ballet was set in 1890, expect some zeitgeisty references to a time when fairies and vampires fueled the imagination. Wicked. Best available orchestra/grand tier seating. Over 8s only.
"This is Mr. Bourne at his best."
