Red Baraat
Bollywood beats for the Western set
When an eight-piece plays Bonnaroo, it’s usually safe to assume there’s a guitar or two in the mix. Not the case with Red Baraat, the fusion band that’s all horns and percussion. Often dubbed bhangra-gone-brass, the group combines New Orleans big-bang tunes with North Indian instruments, notably the dhol (a two-headed barrel shaped drum). They can throw it down just as well at a warehouse party as they can - and did - at the White House and Lincoln Center. Underground System will round out the bill. Bring it on. General admission. Over 21s only."One of the best party bands around."
