Societal roles of an artist take center stage in this exhibit
The critically-acclaimed Yasumasa Morimura is seen as the Cindy Sherman of Japan. The drag artist has posed for over 20 years in photos infused with art-historical icons and famed movie stars and characters known for their cross-dressing repertoire. His latest show, translated into Las Meninas Reborn in the Night, follow his digitally manipulated photos of self-reflexiveness whilst paying homage to Diego Velázquez's work. Perception, the societal roles of an artist, and viewer's relationship to art are explored in this exhibit.
