A new exhibition opens this October at the Stephen Lawrence Gallery exploring the life of British artist Sir James Thornhill and his magnum opus – the Painted Hall. Painted between 1708 and 1727, the exhibition tells the captivating story of Thornhill's great masterpiece. Packed full with his preparatory sketches, this event will let you relive his painstaking process as well as showcase some rarely seen original drawings on loan from the National Maritime Museum. Three newly-conserved, original sketches by Thornhill will also be on display. This exhibition is essential for anyone interested in this 5,683 square foot triumph.
