Ashkenazy Conducts Ivan The Terrible (With Film Excerpts)

Probably the best sound you'll ever have for a movie

Ivan The Terrible broke new ground on its release in 1944 – not only because of its epic and highly affecting content, but also because of its rousing score by Sergey Prokofiev. Even Stalin felt so overwhelmed that he banned the second part from public screening. Tonight, Vladimir Ashkenazy conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra through his arrangement of the score, alongside selected extracts from the movie. The programme: - Prokofiev: Scythian Suite (Ala i Lolli) - Prokofiev: Ivan The Terrible arr Goberman (with film) Seating allocated on arrival.
