Backyard Cinema Cuban Screen Outdoor Screening: The Babadook

What happens when fictional fears come to life?

Backyard Cinema have teamed up with Camden Market to bring you their very own outdoor summer film festival set across two screens. Sink into giant beanbags and lounge on deckchairs as you enjoy a selection of films, all served with fresh burgers, craft beer, cocktails and a decent helping of live DJs. Adventure through the alleys of Camden Market to find the intimate courtyard hosting the Cuban Screen stage. Here, you will find a more unusual range of indie flicks, moving documentaries and foreign language films. Tonight’s offering is the 2014 horror movie, The Babadook. Widowed Amelia struggles to cope with her 6-year-old son Samuel, who is terrified of imaginary monsters instigated by a strange children’s book, Mr. Babadook. But what happens when these fictional fears come to life? Gradually, Amelia comes to share his fear and believe that a monster called the Babadook is persecuting her family. This film relies on real horror rather than cheap jump scares - definitely not for the faint-hearted. "One of the strongest, most effective horror films of recent years." – Empire "Its ability to handle and manipulate the conventional tropes apparent in so many of its peers makes it a satisfying ride." – IndieWire Certificate: 18. Valid ID required. Runtime: 1 hour 32 minutes. Please note that your email address will be passed to the event organiser as these details act as proof of purchase and are required to gain entry.
