No venue is as well suited to dilapidated bohemianism as Wilton’s Music Hall, and this time around they're bringing you New York City in the roaring '40s with Britten In Brooklyn. Set during the run-up to America’s entry into the Second World War, the production documents a time when composer Benjamin Britten, poet WH Auden, striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee, and novelist Carson McCullers were an unlikely set of housemates. United by their dissenting political inclinations and unwillingness to participate in conventional patriotism, this thought-provoking play chronicles 7 Middagh Street as their bohemian lifestyles starts to unravel. Based on true events, the world premiere of Zoe Lewis' passionate and provocative play takes place in the beautiful and unique setting of Wilton's Music Hall. "The piece's greatest strength is it's setting against the glorious environment of Wilton's Music Hall, where the boundaries between set and venue are practically non-existent." – London Theatre "A superb young cast, directed by Oli Rose, captures beautifully the bizarre encounters and surreal incidents, as well as the deeper emotional passages." – The Reviews Hub ★★★★☆ – The Upcoming ★★★★☆ – The Reviews Hub Suitable for mature (age 16+) audiences only, due to strong language and mature themes.
