In 1962 most men went to the Catskill Mountains to escape the heat. Others took the journey to escape something else: being men. In the land of dirty dancing sat an inconspicuous bungalow that catered to heterosexual men whose favourite pastime was dressing as women. In this cross-dressing colony, they left their ordinary lives behind and released their alter-egos. However, when given the choice to share their secret with the world, they have to decide whether the freedom gained is worth the risk.
Casa Valentina gives us a glimpse into the lives of a group of "self-made women" as they search for acceptance in a high heel. Based on actual events, this insightful and entertaining piece is written by Harvey Fierstein, the Tony award-winning writer of Kinky Boots, La Cage Aux Folles and Newsies.
