Learn to cook the best Italian you've ever tasted for yourself
Convivial, tasty and fun to share – that's the simplicity and beauty of cicchetti. This Italian cookery course will show you how to make lots of delicious and very more-ish cicchetti, the tapas-style finger foods you'll find in abundance in Venetian bars.
Well, we say that, but to find the best cicchetti when in Venice, you need to steer yourself away from the main tourist trap restaurants and head in the opposite direction from the crowds to discover the 'bacari', local watering holes in the city of canals, where you'll be eating and drinking with the locals. For those of us not in Italy though, this unique cookery course offers you an evening of cicchetti in London.
Pronounced 'chi-KET-tee', this is the plural of the word cicchetto, and it's most definitely the plural form you'll need for this course as you'll be making plenty of bite-sized Italian treats to go round the whole class and then some. And whilst the cicchetti is being served, you'll be sipping some fine Italian wines that have specially selected to accompany your eats.
Many of the cicchetti recipes you'll be trying out will involve polenta and bread, with teeny sandwiches, mini helpings of fish and easy-to-eat meat dishes all on the menu. After you've mastered the cicchetti, the course continues as you cook up that all time classic – a risotto.
Incredibly simple in terms of ingredients, but risotto is actually quite tricky to make. The end result can be anything from a slushy, gloopy mess to an uncooked and dry effort. No wonder risotto making is pretty much an art form in Italy. Luckily, this course will show you just what you need to do to cook one to perfection.
After all that savoury, there's only one way to finish off your flourish of Italian recipes – by making a Tiramisu. Italians will argue until they are blue in the face about its origins, but many say it is indeed from Treviso near Venice, so this gorgeous mix of cocoa, coffee and mascarpone is the perfect way to round off your evening of cicchetti making.
