Farinelli + The King With Mark Rylance

Opera by candlelight at the Duke Of York

After an epic run of shows at Shakespeare's Globe, this critically acclaimed production of Farinelli And The King is taking to the West End and the stunning Duke Of York Theatre. It tells the story of an insomnia-plagued King and the powerfully talented Farinelli, a celebrated singer who can cure him. Expect a mesmerising performance with glowing candlelight, live Baroque music and original arias. Plus, it stars Olivier, Tony and BAFTA award-winner Mark Rylance. Kind of a big deal. The theatre opened in 1892 as the Trafalgar Square Theatre, with Wedding Eve. The theatre became known as the Trafalgar Theatre in 1894 and the following year became the Duke Of York's to honour the future King George V. It was Grade II listed by English Heritage in September 1960. "The story Van Kampen has to tell is itself extraordinary... a richly unusual evening that not only demonstrates music's curative power for a mad king but its ability to offer spiritual uplift to just about everyone else." – The Guardian "Rylance reigns supreme in a beguiling show." – The Independent Runtime: 2 hours 30 minutes including one interval. Ticket include booking fees.
