Feast Of St George 2016

Celebrate St George's Day in the sunshine

Fingers crossed for sunshine anyway: this is England after all. This Saturday sees the annual celebration of the Feast Of St George and, what's more, it's the 400th anniversary of Britain's (and probably the world's) greatest writer: William Shakespeare. So where better to hold a big old party than London's Trafalgar Square to celebrate England's patron saint and the Bard? On the day, there'll be a special Shakespearean theme, plus a feast of English food, live music and free fun for everyone. There’ll be cookery demos from celebrity chefs, stalls selling mouth-watering treats, a beautiful banqueting area and a host of indoor and outdoor family games. Actors from the Shakespeare's Globe will be dotted around the crowd performing sonnets. Look out for the Globe umbrellas they'll be holding so you can find them easily and listen in on the performances. Music will be provided by a range of great artists including Princes In The Tower, Chameleon Brass Band, The Paddock Singer, Allcock and Brown, Covent Garden String Quartet and the English Cafe, all creating the perfect soundtrack to a fun afternoon in Central London. Over in Cook's Corner 2013 MasterChef winner Natalie Coleman and Britain's Best Dish judge Ed Baines will be showing off their skills in the kitchen. Make sure you drop in during your visit for a cooking demonstration and to pick up some hot cooking tips. In the Enchanted Forest, children can take part in singing, dancing, poetry classes and even a little bit of falconry. There'll also be a chance to play to their own beat at the percussive Musical Magic Tree and create their own elfin headdress to wear on their visit. Bring the whole family down and celebrate the best of Britain. This event is free but entry is subject to the capacity of the event. We recommend getting there in good time to make sure you get in. You need to be registered to store the event information in your profile, but rest assured, we won't charge you a penny. There are no tickets to collect. Just find a space and enjoy. The event is open from 12:00pm-6:00pm.
