Friday Lunch Presents: The Askew Sisters

Drink in the dark ballads and uplifting dance tunes of folk duo Emily and Hazel

Having played together all their lives, the Askew Sisters have developed a driving energy and deep unity that is evident in their command of fiddle, melodeon and concertina. Together they create cinematic arrangements that get to the heart of each song and form a perfect setting for Hazel’s voice, which won her Best Female Singer at the Spiral Earth Awards 2011. Spiral Earth also bestowed its Award for Best Traditional Album on the sisters’ latest record In the Air or the Earth in 2015. This Friday afternoon they show what has made them one of the most heralded acts in the English folk scene. "Vocals shimmering above fiddles, viola, melodeons and concertina, [this album] casts its spell." – The Sunday Times "An album of singular and iconic beauty." – FolkWords Event runtime: 1pm-2pm. This event is free and entry is on a first come first served basis, so it can't be guaranteed. We need your card details to store the event information in "My Tickets", but rest assured, we won't charge you a penny.
